Demand Planning / MRP
Planning that purchasing and production can act on, instead of a NetSuite MRP run everyone ignores in favor of the planner’s spreadsheet.
What this is in NetSuite
NetSuite Demand Planning and MRP turn forecast, sales orders, and inventory into suggested purchase and work orders. They only work when item planning flags, lead times, and locations are true. If those are wrong, MRP is a report that creates busywork.
- Item planning flags, lead times, and preferred vendors
- Demand plans vs MPS-style planning, depending on the edition
- Time-phased replenishment across locations
- Exception handling when the suggestion is wrong on purpose (promotions, allocations, clinical kits)
- A planning calendar with a named owner
- Fewer emergency POs that bypass the item record
- A sandbox MRP run using real location and lead-time data
What Salora actually does
- Audit why the last MRP run was ignored before turning more features on
- Set planning data so suggestions match how buyers actually buy
- Tie healthcare and life-sciences demand spikes to a playbook, not a panic PO
- Train the planner who will own the run after go-live of the process, not just the feature
Who benefits
Multi-location healthcare supply, manufacturers with long lead times, and distributors whose “forecast” currently lives in a buyer’s head.
We’ve published both a how-to for standing up MRP and a healthcare demand-planning guide. On the rescue side, 1st Phorm needed demand planning configured as part of rebuilding an incomplete implementation—not as a module demo.
Questions teams ask
- Is this the same as NetSuite Planning and Budgeting (NSPB)?
- No. MRP is operational replenishment. NSPB is financial planning. We will tell you which one you actually need; they are not interchangeable.
- How long before MRP is trustworthy?
- After item data is honest. We usually spend more time on lead times, lots, and locations than on clicking Generate. A rushed MRP go-live is how you get a feature nobody runs.
